Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have rapidly gained much importance molecular breeding and genetics of certain animals and crops. Current research involves genome wide selection studies on the basis of these SNP markers. A high density single nucleotide polymorphism array is important for geneticists and molecular breeders nowadays. Allelic variations covers maximum part of genome. SNP arrays have been designed to map and identify these genomic regions. Genome wide studies also use QTL mapping approach for identification of complex traits. This review involves analysis of some high density SNP arrays, some associated markers and their applications in agriculture and health research.

Keywords : Markers; QTL; genome; allelic variations.
